In spite of recent events North Santa Monica is still one of the safest places to live on the Westside.
If you want more info on crime and safety, this Thursday from 7-9pm, NOMA (North of Montana Neighborhood Association) is hosting a meeting at Franklin School on Montana and 24th Street. North of Montana residents have always been keenly aware of how important neighborhood safety is and are renewing efforts to enhance security. The Santa Monica Protective Association is a 90402 private patrol that I encourage all neighbors to join. It is affordable and effective when the majority of neighbors participate. According to the Santa Monica Daily Press, ADT has added an extra security patrol car, in the area.
North of Montana residents are meeting at the Montana Ave Library (17th and Montana) this Wednesday night at 6pm to sign up for another security service, SSA Security Group. SSA would be in addition to SMPA and SMPD. SSA security officers can actually make arrests and are said to be ex law enforcement professionals.
On the social media website NextDoor, neighbors have been extra vigilant reporting suspicious activity. The chatter lately has been on crime prevention and on how to start a traditional organized neighborhood watch group.
In addition, this month the City is cracking down on lawbreakers that put pedestrians and bicyclist at risk. Have you noticed a heavier presence of SMPD on Montana Avenue? There have been two pedestrians seriously injured in the last month. Just last Tuesday, within less than 60 minutes of each other, 4 people were stopped for traffic violations in front of my office on 14th and Montana.
