The latest craze on Montana Avenue in Santa Monica seems to be the European style coffee and pastry shop.

Sweet Lady Jane and Valen Dolce have both opened within the last few weeks, offering delectable baked goods and gourmet coffee and teas. Each cake or pastry is a masterpiece, decorated to perfection and just as delicious. The shops are decorated with cafe style tables and chairs where the patrons can sit, relax and enjoy the experience.

Nothing Bundt Cakes is another shop, which opened its doors about the same time. However, this store is a little different as it is designed more as a cake shop. It offers bundt style cakes in ten different flavors and various sizes. We were given samples of the four most popular flavors and they were absolutely delicious.

For many years the emphasis has been on health and nutrition, but at this point in time people seem to just want to relax and enjoy themselves. Thus a more sophisticated European atmosphere is being created along Montana Avenue where the locals can just enjoy their leisure time. What better way to do this than with a gourmet cup of coffee and a delicious homemade pastry, relaxing and watching the world go by?

Here’s hoping that these shops will inject a new energy to our beloved Montana Avenue, bringing more people out to shop and enjoy this trendy avenue.
