And with summer comes Independence Day. When my 3 sons were little, the 4th was a very anxious time for me. What young boys don’t like to get up close to matches and explosions and anything that goes BOOM?
Don’t get me wrong, I love the idea of our nation coming together to celebrate how fortunate we are to be Americans (and who doesn’t love a great BBQ) but (call me a grouch) I could have done without all the m80s and bottle rockets. And now that my kids are grown, I can once again enjoy the weekend without the extra worries. For those of you who are still clenching your jaw and waiting for your kids to develop a healthy fear of explosives, my heart goes out to you.
Here are a few places to celebrate locally this year without having to “bring the boom” to your front yard…
-Don’t miss this year’s “May the 4th be with You” Parade on Main Street between Pico and Marine. Celebrate by dressing in red, white and blue. This is the 8th annual parade and is fun for the whole family beginning at 9:30am.
-The Viceroy is hosting a pool side party with a build-your-own burger BBQ, a live DJ and festive cocktails served from 2pm-6pm.
-Palisades Rocks the Fourth is a concert including gourmet food vendors and a firework finale that can be seen from the beaches of Santa Monica. Located at the Palisades High School; gates open at 5pm and fireworks are at 9pm.
