Another Memorial Holiday weekend is upon us celebrating the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The weather is predicted to be perfect and there is no shortage of ways to spend the day here on the Westside. Did you know that Memorial Day was formerly known as Decoration Day?
The Annual Memorial Day Observance, a free ceremony honoring our military, with Santa Monica Cemetery tours, live patriotic music, speeches from local officials, and a fly-over of a Condor Squadron. Also take a look at the new Commemorative Wall of Santa Monica Veterans who lost their lives while serving. Event starts at 11am, parking is free at the Santa Monica College Lot 4 with a shuttle service to the Cemetery. Food will also be available for purchase.
After the Memorial Day Observance, check out MAINoploy: Taste of Santa Monica, an event to raise money for Summer SOULstice and Heal the Bay. Enjoy tasting and drink specials, tickets are $35 day of or $25 if purchased in advance, Also Monopoly fans can take part of the interactive live version of the game. Event takes place between Pier Avenue and Bay Street, this Sunday May 25th, from 2pm-8pm.
Main Street Memorial Day Block party, this Sunday May 25th between 2pm and 11pm, 31 Ten, Circle Bark, Main on Main and O’Brians are all participating in this event. DJ’s, food, and drink specials all day. Tickets range from $25-$75.
The Queen Mary Salutes U.S. Military Personnel, Have fun with their self-guided tour along with a Ghosts & Legends Show. Tickets are $15 for general pubic but free for all active and retired military members.
The largest arts and crafts fair is located in Hermosa Beach, starting this Saturday thru Monday, this year’s Fiesta Hermosa, has two stages with live music, a food court with 18 varieties of cultural food including cotton candy and Funnel cakes. Children ages 3 to 10 will love the Kiddie Carnival, with mechanical rides, a petting zoo, face painting, a bungee jump and pony rides. For those 21 and over they even have a wine and beer garden.
