Mold can be a dirty word for some especially if you have your house on the market for sale. Living close to the Ocean is particularly difficult since mold feeds on moisture. It’s invisible to the eye and floats through the air, looking for wet surfaces. It is expensive to excavate and may cause health problems. Dry conditions are best for battling the environmental headache.
If you find areas of water damage, clean and dry the area within 24-48 hrs in order to prevent growth and fix all leaks immediately. If the damaged materials are absorbent such as carpets, they must be replaced. Use a bathroom and kitchen fan to ventilate the room for less chance of moisture to build and mold to grow. Keep doors open for proper air circulation to all areas of the home. Musky odors, water stains and standing water are all areas to check for signs of mold.
