The new Santa Monica bike share program now has Hulu, a streaming television and movie service, headquartered in Santa Monica, signed up to sponsor the program.
The city had always planned to find a sponsor for this new program and Hulu stepped up. The $10 million system is expected to be fully implemented in the beginning of November with 75 bike stands city-wide. Bike sharing has already caught on in other cities and the Westside is expected to follow the trend. The city hopes that the use of this program will alleviate some automotive congestion and get people living a healthier lifestyle. The charges for using these bikes are either a pay as you go option of $1 for every 10 minutes or you can sign up for a monthly or annual membership fee. A limited time “Founding Member” annual membership locks in a full year of access to these green and Hulu tagged adorned bikes for just $99.
A few weeks ago we took a closer look at the bike stand right here on Montana Avenue. (I read somewhere recently that the coffee shop next door is not too happy that the bikes are there). Also, check out my past blog discussing the cost of this program to the city.
