I am sure by now you have all heard about the theft in the 500 block of 12th Street. Police say that approximately $10 million in rare art, wine, jewelry and a Porsche were stolen while the owner was out of town. While it sounds like an inside job (the heist occurred over a two day period) it is a big reminder to stay alert and report any out-of-the-ordinary behavior.
The Santa Monica Protective Association is a wonderful protection service that is available to all 90402 residents and PHS has been asked to help form neighborhood watch groups in the area. According to Santa Monica Police Department, Neighborhood Watch groups needs two-thirds of the street to be effective and there has not been enough interest on some streets to actually form. Other streets have been up and running with neighborhood Watch for years. With the magnitude and sensationalism of the recent 12th Street burglary I thought this a good time to remind those of you who have responded to ask your neighbors if they would to get involved.
When there is an open channel of communication in the neighborhood there is less of an opportunity for crime.
