Santa Monica Mountains – Sullivan Ridge Trail

I feel truly blessed to live here in Santa Monica. Life here on the “west side” is great. You can experience the beach and mountains in the same day and the weather is as good as it gets. It is no coincidence I have chosen Santa Monica as my home.

As an avid cyclist I find the trail system here to be a major selling point. I ride 3-5 times per week. My “usual” rides are 1-3.5 hours in duration. As a single father of two young girls I take it where I can get it.

My featured trail is Sullivan Ridge located in Pacific Palisades. This ride starts off at the top of Capri. The trail is about 6.5 miles to the top at “dirt” Mulholland. The workout is the ride up and the payoff is the ride down. There are several options with single track sections on either side to ride. My favorite spot is the stately live Oak tree placed prominently in the center of the fire road at about the half way point. I ride from my home in the Sunset Park area of Santa Monica with a door to door time of two hours. This is a great way to catch the sunset or get some quiet time away from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Have you ever been to the Sullivan Ridge Trail? If so, how did you like it? Are there any other trails in the area you would recommend?
