As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, take a break from trying to find your best green outfit and check out some trivia about this fun holiday. Then feel free to take your new found knowledge to your favorite bar or restaurant in Santa Monica and share it with the world!
Did you know…?
- Patrick’s given name was not actually Patrick. He changed his name from Maewyn Succat to Patrick once he became a priest.
- Patrick was not even born in Ireland. He was born in Great Britain and was kidnapped and brought to Ireland at age 16. Though he escaped the country, he eventually returned.
- Green was not always the color associated with this holiday. The Order of St. Patrick originally picked blue as its color, but once its members started wearing a clover on their lapels, green became the preferred color.
Now that you know these facts, are you planning on celebrating St. Patrick’s Day somewhere in Santa Monica?
You can count on nearly every local bar being packed and serving green beer the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day, but some restaurants are adding a few special touches for those who want to go out on Tuesday the 17th. For example, if you plan to celebrate with the family, head to Finn McCool’s Irish Pub. Not only do kids eat free on Tuesdays, but there will also be live entertainment from Irish musicians. Plus, happy hour goes from 9 pm to close.
The Bungalow is also throwing quite the St. Patrick’s Day celebration, serving everything from corned beef & cabbage to green cookies. Of course, you can also count on green beer, margaritas, and sangria, along with live Irish music. The event starts at 5 pm and ends at 2 am; reservations are recommended.
What are your plans for St. Patrick’s Day?
