Located in the Trancas Canyon area, there is the gorgeous West Malibu Park with its huge flat grassy area, a tot lot and a dog park. All this and a beautiful view of the canyons and ocean.
Several years ago when I read that some vacant land near my house in Malibu would be turned into a park I was thrilled. Many of my neighbors were not and it took years of negotiating with many government agencies and competing interest groups, but finally this year the park was completed and has been open for a few months.
Here are some things to know about the park:
- It opens at 8:00 am and closes around dusk.
- There is plenty of parking as well as environmentally-conscious amenities, which make it a real estate agent’s dream.
- To get there, take PCH from Santa Monica, past Zuma to Trancas Canyon; go up and the park is on the right – just past the homes.
If you have small children, a dog or you just want to toss a football around, then this is the place to be in Malibu.
Malibu has really needed this park with an off-leash area for dogs and so it’s become very popular. The beach is not an option in west Malibu, although there is an unofficial “dog beach” on the east end of the city.
We go to this park almost daily. The dogs love it, my wife is enjoying it and I am really enjoying all the stories about the people she has met there. We have only had our German Shepard a short time and had never really experienced dog parks until this year, so this is a great first experience.
